Attachment-Based Therapy

Attachment-Based Therapy helps us explore how our earliest relationships shape the ways we connect, trust, and seek support. At MLC, we approach attachment through an anti-oppressive lens, recognizing that attachment wounds don’t just come from childhood experiences with caregivers—they are also shaped by systemic oppression, intergenerational trauma, and cultural displacement.

Many traditional attachment models focus on individual healing without considering how larger systems impact safety, belonging, and connection. We challenge these limitations by integrating:

  • Attachment & Oppression: How do racism, xenophobia, homophobia, transphobia, and other forms of oppression impact the ability to form secure relationships?
  • Intergenerational Trauma & Healing: How have family survival strategies shaped attachment patterns? Where is there room for repair and growth?
  • Cultural & Community-Based Attachment: How do cultural and collective experiences influence relationships and emotional security? We acknowledge that attachment is not just about childhood caregivers but also about ancestry, migration, community, and chosen family.
  • Self-Compassion & Reparenting: Exploring ways to build safety within yourself and in relationships, without pathologizing survival responses that were once necessary.

Healing attachment wounds isn’t about achieving a perfect “secure attachment style.” It’s about understanding your relationship patterns with care and self-compassion while making room for relationships that feel safe, affirming, and liberating.
