Gender Identity & Transgender Health

Gender Identity & Transgender Health

At MLC, we recognize that gender identity is deeply personal, fluid, and shaped by lived experiences, culture, and systemic forces. For many transgender, nonbinary, and gender-expansive individuals, mental health struggles are not due to their identity itself but rather to the oppression, stigma, and barriers they face in a cisnormative world.

Our anti-oppressive, affirming approach to gender identity and transgender health includes:

  • Gender Exploration Without Assumption or Gatekeeping – Whether you’re questioning, transitioning, or simply seeking space to process your identity, we meet you where you are, without pressure or predefined expectations.
  • Healing from Gender-Based Trauma & Minority Stress – We recognize the emotional and psychological toll of misgendering, family rejection, medical discrimination, and systemic violence. Therapy provides space to process these experiences with care.
  • Navigating Medical Transition & Affirming Care – We offer informed, nonjudgmental support for those seeking medical transition (HRT, surgeries, voice training, etc.) and help navigate the emotional aspects of medical decisions.
  • Affirming Relationships & Community Support – Whether it’s family, partners, workplace, or community, we help clients navigate conversations about gender identity, advocate for themselves, and cultivate relationships that honor their authenticity.
  • Intersectionality in Gender Identity – We understand that race, disability, culture, and socioeconomic factors shape gender identity experiences. Our approach is rooted in acknowledging and validating these intersections.

You deserve care that affirms your identity, respects your experiences, and supports you in navigating the world as your full, authentic self—without compromise, shame, or fear.
