At Mindful Life Counseling, we recognize racial, sexual, and gender identity development as deeply personal and interconnected. These identities that make up who you are do not develop in isolation from one another, rather they are shaped by culture, lived experiences, and systemic forces. We take a holistic approach to therapy that addresses your whole person, including the impact that racism, heteronormativity, transphobia, patriarchy, and colonialism has on your experience. Intersectionality is at the core of our understanding the struggles posed by power structures such as discrimination, stigma, societal and cultural expectations, and internalized beliefs. We acknowledge there are safety risks to navigating identity in the world, especially for queer people of color, and we will not pathologize your normal responses to systemic stress. Our therapists make space to address the physical, mental, and emotional toll that is taken on with care and curiosity – supporting you in questioning limited narratives, reclaiming parts of you that may have been silenced, and embodying ways of knowing that support a more grounded and affirming sense of self. The goal is not only self-understanding, it is also developing a sense of identity that is fully seen and heard so you can live your authentic life feeling affirmed.
